Dear Jack,
Thanks for remembering my birthday. According to Social Security, I am now officially
"elderly". There are certainly some days when I feel, and look, elderly. But
most days not so. I have been trying to catch up on letter writing this afternoon,
since we didn't have to go to Chely!!!! We are very grateful for that blessing. We went to
church here in Yekat today, and walked home in a light rain. The wind was blowing and
actually turned my umbrella unside out, just like you see in cartoons. I just flipped it
back right. That is the first time that has ever happened. Of course, I don't usually walk
in the rain. At home, if the weather was bad, I just stayed home! Every thing is
going well. Same old, same old. I think the days are beginning to shorten up already,
although it's hard to tell. It is overcast a lot of the time. We are having a very unusual
summer, according to the Russians. Cold and wet. The temperature today didn't get higher
than the low 60's. We have adjusted to not having hot water. We heat water on the
stove. Then we stand in the tub, pour water over ourselves, soap up, rinse off and that's
it. At least we don't have to carry the water outside to dispose of it! It's more
refreshing that way than just washing off. We can adapt to anything we have to, with the
Lord's help.
